About SchengenCalc

SchengenCalc is a free, browser-based Schengen 90/180-day calculator. Enter the entry and exit dates of every trip you have made (or plan to make) to the Schengen Area, and it shows exactly how many of your 90 days are consumed by the rolling 180-day window, how many remain, and whether any day of stay would push you over the limit.

Why we built it

The Schengen short-stay rule is the most misunderstood visa concept in travel. People routinely think the 180-day window "resets" when they leave, or that a quick trip outside the zone grants a fresh 90 days. It does not. The window rolls forward continuously, and every previous Schengen day counts for 180 days from the date it happened. Most existing calculators only handle a single trip, which is useless for anyone who visits Europe more than once a year. We wanted a tool that (a) implements the true rolling-window algorithm correctly, (b) supports unlimited trips, and (c) never sees your travel data.

How the calculation works

For every day you are present in Schengen, the calculator looks back over the 180 days ending on that day (inclusive) and counts how many of those days you also spent in Schengen. If that count exceeds 90, the day is flagged as an overstay. The entry day and the exit day are both counted as days of stay, in line with the Schengen Borders Code. The same check is repeated for every single day of every trip — there is no shortcut, because the window slides one day at a time.

The "days used in the current window" figure is simply the count of stay-days that fall within the 180 days ending on your chosen reference date (today by default). The "next safe re-entry date" is the first future day on which enough old days have rolled off that you could be present again without exceeding 90.
